The National Employment Standards

Industrial relations covers awards and conditions, employers and workplace conditions.

At HR4Business, we help employers to understand and carry out their responsibilities, as well as educating employees about their requirements and entitlements. Our IR Consultant’s service a wide range of towns across the region including Ballarat.

It is about protecting the whole workforce of people from mistreatment and promoting a culture of fairness and equality where everyone can work safely and happily.

As part of Australia’s industrial relations laws, Fair Work introduced the National Employment Standards in 2010 as a safety net for employees who are covered by the national workplace relations system.

Furthermore, it is a requirement that workplaces provide all new employees with the Fair Work Information Statement as soon as possible after being employed.

The Statement provides information about the National Employment Standards and outlines your entitlements as an employee.

All businesses big and small need to know this information and act accordingly.

The National Employment Standards cover 10 entitlements:

  • Maximum weekly hours of work
  • Requests for flexible working arrangements
  • Parental leave and related entitlements
  • Annual leave
  • Personal/carer’s leave and compassionate leave
  • Community service leave
  • Long service leave
  • Public holidays
  • Notice of termination and redundancy pay
  • Provision of a Fair Work Information Statement

You can read the full introduction to the NES here.
