Mid year update of HR issues for small business

As HR consultants for small to medium business in Geelong and surrounding areas, HR4Business aims to provide a number of HR consutling services to help businesses manage their people management functions.  Services may include Industrial Relations consulting, HR compliance audits, outplacement, HR project management, mediation and assistance with basic HR policy management.

HR Updates:

  • Proposed changes to legislation in relation to Flexible Working Arrangements are on the horizon.  We advise you contact Fair Work for advice once announcements are made.
  • New Sexual Harassment in the Workplace Practice Guideline has been released by the Victorian Equal Opportunity Commission.  Click here for more information.
  • Fair Work Australia is now known as the Fair Work Commission.
  • From July 1, the superannuation guarantee rate is going up and employers have an obligation to increase superannuation contributions.  The rate will increase gradually over 7 years from 9% to 12% by 2019.
  • For unfair dismissals the timeframe has been extended. Where the dismissal occurred on or after the 1st January 2013 an applicant must lodge the complaint within 21 days from the date of the dismissal taking effect.
  • Employee Wages… ensure you are prepared for the 2012-2013 Annual Wage Review which is fast approaching.
  • The Preventing and Managing Fatigue in the Workplace and Preventing and Responding to Workplace Bullying draft model Codes of Practice are currently being revised. They are expected to be finalised in the first half of 2013.
